I'm a genealogist, and since recently uncovering a lineage that takes me back into Tudor and Stewart times in several rural English counties, I've been reading about and hunting up photos of small English towns and villages. It's hard to find views that don't include motorways, television towers, and supermarkets, but this splendid book brims over with gorgeous, glossy color photos of many varieties of the "classic" English village. Even better, the text identifies what you're looking at in considerable detail, gives a capsule history, and explains the differences between traditions and cultures in (say) Somerset, Norfolk, and Yorkshire -- which is important for us Yanks, even those of us who are well read in history. For instance, I've heard the term "black and white architecture," but really didn't have a mental picture of what it referred to. A lively piece of work.

Although this book may not be of interest to everyone, it should be valuable to anyone who is aiming for a career in photography. This book provides a wonderful glimpse into the work of Robin Perry. Most of the images are quite out of this world. This book was published (in 1974) five years before i was born. I had a feeling this book would be out of print. I consider myself very fortunate to have found it at a used book shop several weeks ago.

Anyone who enjoys viewing or creating photography should see the pictures in this book. Each photo is accompanied by a complete description of how and why the image was created.

Jamieson, et al. have done a very good job of trying to come to grips with the one of the hottest topics in military histroy - the way that armies in the late 19th Century attempted to cope with technological innovation and newer, more destructive weapons. Additionally they cover that most peculiarly American of all military campaigns, the Indian Wars, with an intelligence and incisiveness that I have not seen anywhere else - forget about the glorious charges of the Saturday matinee! My only gripe with this book is that it relies too heavily on letting the factual material speak for itself. A greater degree on analysis would have made the book longer, but it would have made it better too. Overall, it is a welcome addition to the growing literature on the revolution in military affairs which was taking place at the time, and it serves as a reminder at our own 'fin de siecle', about the continuing need for new ideas in military tactics.

Perry uses extensive interviews with former clerks and Justices to gather his data on the cert. process in the United States Supreme Court. He presents the information in a very readable format that provides brings to light why some cases get heard and others don't. Ultimately he presents a decision making model that takes into consideration both the individual justices, the factors influencing cert., and the purpose of the Court. This book gives the reader a good look at the cert. process from the inside and from a non-legal perspective. It is a must read for any attorney thinking of writing a cert. petition. This book would be interesting for anyone interested in how the Supreme Court functions in our system of government.

This book is of primary interest to the person wanting to know about the soldiers and marines of the US Lake Erie fleet in 1813, and of secondary interest to the person wanting to know about the sailors. It has a short history of the campaign and battle of Lake Erie which is inferior to the account in many general War of 1812 histories. It then lists who shared in the Prize money from capture of the British fleet by ship, who was killed or wounded by ship, the soldiers by unit they came from, the 48 hour volunteers, and the officers and sailors who accompanied Perry from Rhode Island. Then comes a list of marines serving in fleet but not battle with a paragraph each and a list of soldiers and marines who served in battle with a paragraph each.

This book gave us all I needed to get through Delphi 2 programming! Simple, easy to understand techniques taught by a great writer.

I read this book perhaps five years ago and I thought it was fantastic. It told of Bradman's early days, his rise through grade cricket and the sheffield shield and onto cricket for Australia. Follows him for the next 20 years as he came to dominate world cricket and become Australia's greatest son. Inspirational.

I happened upon "The Downing of Flight Six Heavy" at a local used book store last week and the description seemed intriguing. I'd never heard of the author, Perry Lafferty, but decided to give it a chance. Luckily, my chance paid off as it was a worthwhile read. It wasn't too deep or technical, but a quick, fun read.

The premise of the novel is a commercial airline pilot being asked by the CIA to fly a plane holding a top secret military device in its cargo hold. However, to disguise these intentions from the Russians, the pilot is asked to hijack his own plane. The plan doesn't work completed as expected and soon the pilot and his crew are fighting for their lives. Not everyone is as they initially seem and the ending has a nice twist to it.

If you enjoy technothrillers, this one would be worth your time. It's not up there with the best (Jon Land or Tom Clancy), but it is still entertaining. It is still available through Amazon, even though it was printed ten years ago.

A very good book for introductory engineering geology. The author presents the information in an easy to read and understand format. I thoroughly enjoyed the authors use of actual situations and incidents to help the reader understand the concepts, applications and importance of the subject material. I would recommend this book to anyone with an interest of attaining a basic understanding of engineering geology.

I really enjoyed the fascinating combination of literature and erotica in these stories! I most enjoyed the story about the black magic sorcerer, who while he grows young and kinder, cannot escape justice for his past evils. This is a spellbinding collection, I just wish it had been a longer read!
